The Alternate Theme for "Ruby Gloom"

Since I didn't have any room to put this in the Ruby Gloom review itself, I thought I would make it its own post here on the blog. This is the supposed alternate theme for Ruby Gloom. The one I shared in the review (both versions) is the official theme that was used in the show itself, while this is the alternate theme that was considered, but wasn't actually used in the show itself. Or at least, that's what everyone says.

Similar to the "pilot" that I showed at the end of my review, I really don't know for sure this "alternate theme" is legit or not, or if people are just making stuff up and this is just a fan made song that people are presenting as an official alternate theme. It's hard to tell on the Internet what's true and isn't true, and it's hard to tell what is and isn't true about this show on the Internet because it is so obscure, and so few people actually know about it. And there's so little information about it on either Wikipedia or IMDb, and none of the creators or developers of the show and the toy and apparel brand it was based on have made any statements confirming or denying any of the information that's been said about it on the Internet. So, there's plenty of room for people to lie and create hoaxes.

But, let's just say for the sake of argument that this is indeed the alternate theme for Ruby Gloom, like let's just indulge and play along with the idea that it is. I like it, I really like this theme. I like the more rock n' roll sound it has to it rather than whatever genre the official final theme is. This theme almost sounds like surf rock πŸ„, like the type of music that they used in the Season 1 SpongeBob 🧽  Halloween episode πŸŽƒ, "Scaredy Pants." BTW, don't you find it weird that that the denizens of Bikini Bottom already know what Halloween πŸŽƒ is, but they don't know what Christmas πŸŽ„ is? But then other times in the show, it seems like they do already know what Christmas πŸŽ„ is before Sandy 🐿️ introduced it to them in the Christmas episode πŸŽ„, "Christmas Who πŸŽ„?"

I don't know, it's all very confusing. It's not as if SpongeBob 🧽 really had that solid of continuity, nor was it meant to, despite all the fans and despite Nickelodeon itself trying to make it seem like it is a show with strong continuity when it not. SpongeBob 🧽 has no continuity. It's always contradicting itself, and it always has contradicted itself. People just need to accept that.

But anyway, back to Ruby Gloom. Still, going along with the idea that this song is an actual official alternate theme for the show that was composed, performed, recorded, and considered, but was rejected, there have been a few theories presented as to why it was rejected in favor of the one that's the show now. The most common theory is that the theme was too dark and it didn't fit the tone of the show. Again, similar to what people say about that supposed "pilot," which I'm also sort of skeptical about.

But, I really don't believe this. I've listened to this theme multiple times, and it really isn't that dark. It just has a more rock n' roll sound to it. None of the lyrics would suggest that this theme was too dark or too inappropriate for the target audience this show was going for. It's still an acceptable song for the target demographic with nothing particularly objectionable. So, I don't buy into that argument. Maybe, the people behind the show just didn't like the sound of it, and liked the other one better. It could be as simple as that.

People sometimes like to make these elaborate reasons for things were rejected or not used in a particular show or movie, and usually, it's the simpler and more mundane answer that is ultimately the correct one. The truth is, we'll never really know why this theme wasn't used in the actual show, and why the other one was chosen over this one. Unless the original developers of the show (because it had developers not creators) make an official public statement about whether this supposed "alternate theme" is legitimate or not and if it is, why they didn't use it, this will remain a mystery that the Ruby Gloom fanbase will just have to continue speculating about. But, even if it isn't real, and is just some fan made project, it still sounds pretty good.

(This is the supposed alternate theme for Ruby Gloom. I really don't know how legit it is, but everyone on YouTube insists that this was the official alternate theme that was considered, but was rejected for this show.)
