“The Weekenders” Is Finally Coming to Disney+

(This is the logo for The Weekenders AKA Disney's The Weekenders. It was hard to find high quality PNG of this. The one on Wikipedia page is really small and low quality. So, I reverse image searched it on Google Images, I finally found one. The version that I downloaded and used for this post was created by the DeviantARTist known as J0J0999Ozman. Here is the logo on DeviantART, add it to your favorites or leave a comment if you're a fan of The Weekenders and you have a DeviantART account.)

If you’ve been following my blog since the beginning, or if you followed me on DeviantART and you jumped on here are you realized that I was no longer producing content for DeviantART, you’ll know that I wrote a post talking about whether or not there should be a Weekenders revival, where talked the Cambodian Genocide 🇰🇭 😰. Well, there’s been a major update in the world of The Weekenders, the show is finally coming to Disney+, on May 25, 2026 🥳. I wasn’t sure if I should just write this as an update on the other post, or if I should write it as its own dedicated post. But I figured that since it had been a long time since I wrote that previous post about The Weekenders, and the idea of a reboot, and since I’m free to write any post I want and post it since I got through my 199th post and 200th post (go read them if you’d like), I should write this as its own dedicated post. So that people will actually read it, it won’t be lost in the sea of posts that I have on this blog. Even though I only have 212 at the time of me writing this. If I just wrote it as an update to that post, no one would actually read it because it’s attached to a 3 year old post that no one read, and it would get quickly forgotten about. Technically it's a 5 year old post since the original journal on DeviantART was created in 2021. I can't believe it's been 5 years since I wrote that. So, it is better to just do this as its own post. This show definitely deserves it.

After Disney added nearly all the other classic animated shows from the 1990s and 2000s to their streaming service, Disney+, this was the one of the three (that I can think) that was left out of the equation. No body really knows why, not even the creator or any of the other people who worked on the show, since they were left out of the loop of these decisions by the higher ups at Disney and the people who decide what movies and shows go on Disney+, and which ones do not. The decision to not put The Weekenders on Disney+ at the service’s launch, or in the years after until now, was purely a decision made by them. But it’s finally get added after what, 6 years, since Disney+ has been around? Every Weekenders fans everywhere, and even the creators themselves, are rejoicing right now 🥳🍾. They have been fighting for this for years, and they finally got their wish. They won, and Disney caved to their demands.

All we need now is Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and we’ll be all set. The only obstacle preventing Buzz Lightyear of Star Command from getting added to the service is Pixar themselves. They do not recognize this show as canon, and they’ve been trying to make this show disappear and make everyone forget about it. They want everyone to watch their Lightyear movie, which they see as the true canon backstory to the Buzz Lightyear character within the fiction-within-fiction storyline of Toy Story. They specifically pitched it as “the movie that Andy watched that made him want to buy a Buzz Lightyear toy.” But, no body liked that movie, it was a box office bomb 💣 (it didn’t make any money 💵), and no body forgot the Buzz Lightyear animated series, and they want it to back. So hopefully one day Pixar will swallow their pride and finally allow this show to go on Disney+ too because a lot of people are nostalgic for it and they want to revisit their childhood and watch it again all these years later.

I’m more nostalgic for the movie, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins, specifically the version that was released on DVD 📀 where Patrick Warburton’s voice as Buzz was dubbed over with Tim Allen’s to make the movie more in-line with the Toy Story movies. They even included a 3D animated intro that was supposed to be set in the Toy Story world and show the Toy Story characters (Andy’s toys) watch the Buzz Lightyear movie. I don’t know if that intro is in the TV version of the movie, or if it’s just in the DVD version 📀. But, I never watched the show itself, and I would like the chance to watch it for myself. Mainly so I can review it, but also for my own enjoyment. If it ever does get added to Disney+ in the future, or if already has, I'll be the first to let you know.

Lloyd in Space also hasn't added to the service yet, and it's by the same people who made this show, The Weekenders. It definitely has the same art style, or a very similar one. Okay, scratch that, I looked at the Wikipedia page for the show, and it turns out it was actually created by the Recess co-creators, Joe Ansolabehere (what a last name) and Paul Germain. But, the art style still looks very similar to the one in The Weekenders. Same thing thin black outlines, same small beady eyes that are far apart. But I'd also like to check out Lloyd in Space one of these days. Especially if it's ever made available on Disney+. Not just because it's a sci-fi show and it's about aliens 👽, but it just looks like a good show. A very charming show. It also has the distinction of having the first non-binary character ever featured in a cartoon made for kids. So, that's reason enough to check it out for me. It has historical significance.

When I first heard the news from a YouTube Community Post from the official? (maybe) YouTube channel for The Weekenders, I posted a comment on there saying, and I quote (myself): "I'll have to add it to my Watchlist when it goes up." Which the people running the channel gave me love ❤️ a like for. And I meant what I said. Not just so I can finally watch the show in its entirety, but also so that I can finally review it after all these years. I hesitated to put on my list of things to review because the show really wasn't available to watch anywhere. Sure, there were full episodes here and there on YouTube, but those were pirated 🏴‍☠️ and they were sped up and in low quality to avoid copyright ©. And it still wasn't the full series, there still a ton of episodes missing and unaccounted for. And this isn't a long series either, only lasted 2 seasons, 39 episodes, 73 segments across two years, from 2000 to 2001. So, you can get an idea of how many episodes were missing, and just weren't available anywhere...legally.

But now that the show's coming to Disney+, I'll access to all the episodes in both seasons, meaning it's actually feasible to do a review of this show now. So expect a review of this show sometime in the future. I don't know when, I still have to review Lilo & Stitch: The Series, but you can be assured that it will happen someday. It and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2. But Lilo & Stitch: The Series only has 2 seasons, 65 episodes, and 67 segments, and I'm currently on episode 8, Yapper, so I'm getting there. I'm making my way through it. Monarch Season 2 on the other hand has only 10 episodes, and they're all almost feature length from what I understand. So, once I start watching it, it won't take too long. But before I do any of that, I've got a Cowboy Bebop (1998) review to get to.

(This is a wallpaper image for The Weekenders, showing all four of the main characters from the show: Tino, Carver, Tish, and Lor. All skateboarding 🛹, some doing it better than others. I like how they're perfectly balanced, meaning that there's two boys ♂︎ and two girls ♀︎. Neither gender outnumbers the other. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. It's just like how in Cowboy Bebop (1998), they specifically changed the character Edward to a girl ♀︎ so that Faye wouldn't be the only girl ♀︎ in the group. So, with Edward now a girl ♀︎, the gender makeup of the Bebop crew was two males ♀︎ and two females ♀︎. Two men ♂︎, one woman ♀︎, and one girl ♀︎. Makes you wonder why they didn't do the same for Outlaw Star. Gene and Jim are the only two males ♂︎ in a crew of five. Most of the others are females ♀︎. One android girl ♀︎, one human woman ♀︎, and one alien cat girl 👽🐱♀︎. Even if they added an extra male member ♂︎ to the crew, it would bring the total number of crew members to six. And no, Gilliam doesn't count. The human woman ♀︎ in the Outlaw Star crew, Twilight Suzuka, is actually voiced in the English dub by the same voice actress who did the English voice for Faye in the English dub of Cowboy Bebop (1998) because they were done by the same company.

I believe it was Funimation, or a different company at the time, but Funimation did end up acquiring the English dub of Cowboy Bebop (1998) and releasing it on Blu-Ray 💿 along with the original Japanese audio version 🇯🇵 in the 2010s. Which is how I'll be watching it for my review in the next couple of weeks. The review I mean, the review will be out in the next couple of weeks. But I will start watching the series as soon as possible. Whenever I have the free time, as well as watching a longplay or cutscene movie of the Cowboy Bebop game, Cowboy Bebop: Serenade of Reminiscence since that game is actually canon to the series. Just like how the Futurama game is canon to the Futurama series, or how the Samurai Champloo game, Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked is canon to the Samurai Champloo series. It's fitting that I make that comparison considering that Cowboy Bebop (1998) and Samurai Champloo were both made by the same guy ♂︎, Shinchirō Watanabe.)
