Note:    This was originally written on Saturday August 26, 202 3. This is thi rd entry in my series on China 🇨🇳 and East Asia . The last one that I posted was abou t China 🇨🇳's struggling economy . It isn't required reading to understand this post, but it is an interesting topic because a big part of China 🇨🇳's power, influence, and status in the world comes from its economy. And if it's economy is struggling, then it loses some of that prestige, it loses a degree of its power and influence throughout the world. Their economy is still struggling, and still hasn't made the full recovery that some people have predicted that it would. Some people have taken this to mean that China 🇨🇳 has "peaked," while others haven't.  I recently saw a video put out by CSIS (Center for Strategic and International Studies), a think tank that specializes in geopolitics and tries to influence American policy 🇺🇸 on foreign policy.   (This is the flag of the United Nations 🇺🇳.)    I don't know if you've heard the news or not, but China 🇨🇳 and Russia 🇷🇺 both vetoed a US-sponsored UN resolution 🇺🇸🇺🇳 to call for an immediate ceasefire to the war in Gaza. This pisses me off because China 🇨🇳 and Russia 🇷🇺 have both been publicly calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, and have condemned Israel 🇮🇱 for most of the war. And they've criticized and complained about the US 🇺🇸 using its permanent member status in the UN Security Council 🇺🇳 to veto any resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire.     (These are the flags of Israel 🇮🇱 and Palestine 🇵🇸. The flag on top is the Israeli flag 🇮🇱 and the one on the bottom is the Palestinian flag 🇵🇸.) But, now that the US 🇺🇸 wants a ceasefire, all of a sudden, China 🇨🇳 and Russia 🇷🇺 don't want one, and used their own veto power to veto the US 🇺🇸's proposed resolution.
