My Thoughts on “A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄”
(This is the poster for A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄.)
I’m sorry, I keep saying that I’m going to review Nobody 2, but I still haven’t. Believe me, I want to review it, but I can’t right now. I don’t have the Blu-Ray 💿 or the 4K 💿. I’ve been waiting to get it after my grandma’s last payday in November, and then I was going to review it after I posted that really long post I wrote about the Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die trailers, but it didn’t work out that. I spent all the money 💵 that I was going to use to buy Nobody 2, and I ended up not reviewing it when I originally wanted to. That post about the trailers to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die ended up being the last post I wrote for November, and I only ended up writing 3 posts for the month of November. I was going to write a lot more than that to make up for not posting that much in October, but everything got held up by my Nobody 2 review, and my refusal to write any new posts until I actually reviewed that movie.
My 200th post is fast approaching after all, and I originally wanted to write it before I got to my 200th post, but it’s looking more and more like I’ll have to do after I reach my 200th post milestone. I’m just hoping now that I get Nobody 2 as a Christmas gift 🎄. If not, then I’ll just have to buy it on my own, probably online. But, I will review Nobody 2, I promise. For now though, to make up for it, I’ve decided to review the latest Loud House movie, A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄. I do need more Loud House content on my blog after all, so I thought I might as well check it out. I had no idea that this movie was coming out until a few months ago, when I saw a Community post on Luan Out Loud’s YouTube channel talking about the upcoming stuff related to the Loud House franchise, and they showed the Loud House Wiki page about the movie.
If you’ll remember, I reviewed the Loud House movie that came out last year, in 2024, No Time to Spy: A Loud House Movie, which was a continuation of a storyline that started in the actual series, and was pretty much a spy comedy about Lincoln trying to help his soon-to-be new grandma, Myrtle on this mission she gets sent on by her old agency while she’s planning her wedding with the Loud family’s grandfather, Albert (who is the mother, Rita’s father); but keeps getting rejecting because he’s a kid, and she think he’s too young to be helping her on this dangerous mission. All this because Lincoln’s into spies, specifically, David Steele, an in-universe James Bond esque comic book character. He replaced his hyperfixation on superheroes, and specifically, Ace Savvy, with a different one on spies, and specifically, David Steele. I guess even Lincoln got superhero fatigue. But, if you read my review, or if you read the entry about it in my 2024 New Year’s Eve Recap, you’ll know that I quite enjoyed that movie. Some stuff annoyed me, like Lincoln was kind of getting on my nerves in the first half of the movie, when he was trying to force his way into Myrtle’s mission despite her constantly telling him “No, it’s too dangerous, and you’re a child!”
I also didn’t like how little screen time the rest of the Loud family got, and how little they got to do. I know Lincoln’s the main character, but just because he’s the main character doesn’t mean that they have focus on him all the time. It doesn’t always have it be about him. He’s not the only main character after all, he’s 10 other sisters, and I’ve been saying for a while now, but it’s about time they get some actual focus, and not just stand in the background, or just get a few seconds or minutes of screen time where they only say one or two lines and that’s it. In fact, I think they should make entire movies centered on each of the sisters. I mean, they’ve done episodes focused on each of the 10 sisters, so why not movies? But, once Myrtle gets kidnapped, and Lincoln and the rest of the Loud family really do get involved in the mission, and go back against the bad guys, that’s really when it really picks up, when it really kicks into high gear and gets good. That movie made me like Myrtle. Not I hated her or anything, but she wasn’t exactly one of my favorite characters, but that movie made me like her a lot more, especially since it dove more into her background as a spy, and now she’s one of my favorite characters. I hope we see more of her in the future after that film.
But, it was surprising to me that they made another Loud House movie, and they released it so soon after the last one, after No Time to Spy. And a Christmas movie 🎄 no less, since they’ve already done a Christmas movie 🎄 with the live action version, The Really Loud House, and they’ve done multiple Christmas specials 🎄 in the main series. I guess the people who make this show, and the movies, really like Christmas 🎄. At least, they aren’t like other shows, where they only make one special or movie about every other holiday, but then go all out for Christmas 🎄, and then make multiple movies or specials about it. They have made multiple Halloween movies and specials 🎃, like they did two Halloween specials 🎃 (three if you count the one for The Casagrandes), and then they made a Halloween movie 🎃 in the live action part of the franchise. So, they are at least willing to go as all out for Halloween 🎃 as they are for Christmas 🎄. They’ve got at least some people in the staff that like Halloween 🎃, and not just people who like Christmas 🎄.
Naughty or Nice actually came out on November 21, 2025, a week before Thanksgiving 🦃, but I decided to wait until December to finally watch it and review because I thought that would be more fitting than watching it in November, the same week as Thanksgiving 🦃, the holiday that gets so little love ❤️ in movies and TV shows. Even The Loud House has only made one Thanksgiving special 🦃, they haven’t bothered making a Thanksgiving movie 🦃…yet. I guess a lot of people feel like there’s only so much you can do with Thanksgiving 🦃 as a concept, there aren’t a whole lot of stories you can tell surrounding that holiday, other than people getting together for a big meal, or planning or preparing for a big meal; or having a story about pilgrims, or turkeys 🦃. Any family drama could squeeze out of a Thanksgiving gathering 🦃 in a movie, could easily be done in a Christmas setting 🎄.
Thankskilling 🦃 was just about a supernatural talking killer turkey 🦃 killing people, and wasn’t really about the holiday itself; they did still incorporate the holiday somewhat, but really, the only thing that makes it a Thanksgiving movie 🦃 is that it’s about a killer turkey 🦃. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles ✈️🚊🚗 was probably the most creative use of the holiday in cinema that we’ve seen. I mean, it’s a story that could’ve taken place around any holiday, it could’ve easily have been a Christmas movie 🎄, and in fact, a lot of people thought it was a Christmas movie 🎄; especially those who live outside the United States 🇺🇸 or Canada 🇨🇦, the only two countries in the world that actually celebrate Thanksgiving 🦃. But, the fact that they did make it a Thanksgiving movie 🦃 made it unique.
Maybe that’s why we haven’t gotten that many Thanksgiving movies 🦃, it doesn’t have global appeal. Thanksgiving 🦃 is such an American and Canadian holiday 🇺🇸🇨🇦, it’s something that is so specific to North America, that it doesn’t have any appeal or reach outside of this continent and outside of these two countries. It’s not a holiday that’s celebrated globally like Christmas 🎄 or Halloween 🎃. Even St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ is more of a global holiday than Thanksgiving 🦃. Why would movie studios investing in making a movie, possibly for hundreds of millions of dollars 💵, about a holiday that’s really only celebrated in two countries? Why would TV networks and streaming services invest money 💵 and time making episodes or specials about a holiday that’s only celebrated in two countries, when they want to make content that has as wide of an appeal as possible, that actually has global reach? So, that’s why when we do get holiday movies, specials, and episodes, they usually just stick to either Halloween 🎃 or Christmas 🎄.
I’m honestly surprised they didn’t release this movie in December, I think it would’ve been a way better time to release it than November, the week before Thanksgiving 🦃. Maybe, they didn’t want to release it in December because they have this thing about not releasing any new movies or shows on Paramount+, or on Nickelodeon, in the month of December because it is the holiday season, and people just want to get back home to be with their families, and don’t actually want to work. That’s why doctors almost never schedule appointments in December because they don’t want to work in December, and want to focus on preparing for the holidays and spending time with their families. Whatever the case, I think this should’ve been a December release instead of a November one. But, just because Paramount didn’t release it in December doesn’t mean that I can’t watch it or review it in December.
So, what did I think of it? I thought it was pretty good. I’m not sure if I liked it more than No Time to Spy, because it is so fresh in my mind, I just barely got done watching it. It’s just too early for me to say with any certainty at this time, but I’m sure if I think about it a little further and I let it stew in my mind for a little bit, I’ll decide whether I like this more than No Time to Spy. It is a little bit similar to No Time to Spy, like it has very similar plot where Lincoln really wants something, or he really wants to do something, and everything he does to try to get that thing or do that thing ends up ruining it for everyone else. He fucks everything up by being selfish, and trying to pursue his own wants and desires at the expense of others. Then, the rest of the movie is him trying to undo his mistake, and set things right. In No Time to Spy’s case, it was him trying to be a spy and Myrtle’s partner, and ending up getting her kidnapped by the bad guys, and him having to rescue her with the help of the rest of the Loud family. In this movie’s case, it’s him trying to get on the Nice list after he finds out he’s on the Naughty list, and ends up messing up Christmas 🎄 by disrupting the Christmas magic continuum 🎄, or whatever Lisa called it, and him having to go to North Pole with the rest of the Loud family to set things right and restore the Christmas magic 🎄 to put everything back the way it was. All because he wanted a Rip Hardcore multi-tool. Good to know he’s still into Rip Hardcore even after getting into David Steele, and apparently losing interest in Ace Savvy.
I think after this movie, that’s enough, like we don’t need another Loud House movie with this type of plot line of Lincoln messing up, and needing to fix his mistake with the help of his family. It’s pretty played out at this point, and I think that if they do any more Loud House movies after this, they need to try something else. Like I said before, I would like to see a movie that focuses on one of the Loud sisters. They are just as much main characters as Lincoln is, and they’ve already done episodes of the show that focuses on each of them. So, why not a whole movie? It would be a great way to truly shake things up, so that it won’t feel like we’re just seeing the same thing over and over again. I did see comments on Luan Out Loud’s Community post reviewing this movie, say that they didn’t buy that Lola was on the Nice list. Like, out of all the Loud siblings, Lola is probably the naughtiest. She’s certainly the brattiest. Most of her episodes are about her learning not to be a terrible person, and her not really learning her lesson, and making the same mistakes in another episode. So, if anyone should have a plot line about not put on the Naughty list for Christmas 🎄, and trying everything they can to get on the Nice list, it should’ve been Lola, not Lincoln.
(This is a screenshot from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing Lola finishing her letter ✉️ to Santa 🎅.)
I know they have this whole joke about Lola trying everything she can to be good so that she can be on the Nice list and get gifts 🎁 from Santa 🎅, like it takes all of her will power to be good and not be bad, but they already that joke in one of previous Christmas specials 🎄. Do a storyline where she actually snaps, and she can’t maintain facade, and does go bad on Christmas Eve 🎄 and gets put on the Naughty list, and then, she finds out about it and does everything she can get back on the Nice list, and then ends up fucking everything up for everyone else. She ends up ruining Christmas 🎄 because she tried so desperately to get back on the Nice list after she got put on the Naughty list. Even the whole joke about her trying to stay nice for Christmas 🎄 could even be apart of the story, because she’s not being good for the sake of it, she’s not being a kind person because being kind comes naturally to her, she’s only doing it so that she can get presents 🎁 from Santa 🎅. She’s very transactional, she’ll only do something if she gets something out of it. She always expects something in return. That’s always been one of Lola’s main character flaws since the very beginning. A storyline like this, where she’s the main focus would have been perfect, and would’ve been a great way for her to grow as a character. And if not that, then make Lola one of the “naughty people” that gets what they want when Lincoln messes up the lists, and disrupts the Christmas magic continuum 🎄 or whatever.
(These are more screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing Lola probably shouldn’t be on the Nice list.)
But, they chose Lincoln because he’s the main character of the series. He’s the face of the entire franchise, he has to be the main focus they reason. Even if this plotline really doesn’t make sense for him since he’s not really a character who’s had a dilemma or crisis about being good or bad. He’s always been kind of a good kid, which is kind of why he’s never really been one of my favorite characters in this show. He’s always been kind of bland, especially compared to his sisters, who way more colorful than he is. But, I will admit, watching No Time to Spy and this movie, he has kind of grown on me a little bit. I like Lincoln a lot more now than when I first got into this show back in 2023. He’s still not one of my favorite characters, and there are characters I like way more than him, but I don’t hate him as much as I used to. Hate is a strong word, let’s say, I don’t dislike him as much as I used to. I can sort of see what some fans mean when they say it feels like the show punishes Lincoln for no reason. Like, he always seems to get the short end of the stick, and he’s always the one who messes everything up, he’s always the one who has to learn the lessons, and he’s always the one who has to fix their mistakes. While, the Loud sisters aren’t really required to do anything. The burden is never on them, the responsibility is never on them. They always get to stand on their high horse 🐎, and act like Lincoln’s the bad one, and they’re the good ones.
But, I will say that this movie does a good enough job at showing why Lincoln would end up on the Naughty list. He does enough bad things to where him being put on the Naughty list makes sense, and all his attempts to get off the Naughty list and get put on the Nice list, only ensure that he will stay on the Naughty list. But really, the whole Loud family, even the parents, have all done bad things, as well as do plenty of good things. They should all be flippers, not just Lincoln. They make such a big deal about how Lincoln’s a flipper, a person who teeters on the edge of being Naughty and Nice, and he’s seemingly the only one. But really, all of the Loud children should be flippers, because again, while they are fundamentally good children, they still have done plenty of bad things, to where none of them would neatly fit into one list, but would keep flip-flopping between the two; according to Duncan’s program, the Technical Integrated Naughty/Nice Santa List 🎅 (T.I.N.N.S.L.). Maybe, that would’ve been a good way to improve the plot, instead of having Lola be the main protagonist, make all the Loud children flippers. That way, it isn’t yet another story about correcting another one of Lincoln’s mistakes, rather, it’s about correcting a mistake the Loud children made together, collectively. If they make another Loud House movie after this, that’s what I think they should do, instead doing yet another plot line centered around Lincoln and Lincoln making a mistake too big for him to fix on his own. The burden should be all of them, not just one of them. After all this, this show (and franchise) is called The Loud House, not The Lincoln Loud Show.
(This is another screenshot from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing Lincoln Loud.)
I do still they should make a movie centered around Lucy, given that she’s one of the most popular and well liked characters in this show. She has a whole subplot where she’s trying to find Krampus, the demonic goat man 🐐♂︎, because she really wants to meet him; she’s way more interested in meeting Krampus than she is meeting Santa 🎅. Most people probably know who Krampus is by now, especially if they’ve seen the Krampus movie from 2015, which BTW, was directed by Michael Dougherty, the same guy ♂︎ who would go onto direct Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Krampus (2015) was arguably the film that landed him that directing gig. Basically, Krampus is the anti-Santa. Instead of bringing gifts 🎁 to good children, the nice ones, like Santa 🎅 does, Krampus punishes bad children, the naughty ones. That’s the basic gist of Krampus, that’s really all you need to know about him, other than he originates from Central and Eastern Alpine folkloric traditions, particularly German and Czech folklore 🇩🇪🇨🇿. But, Krampus is recognized in other European countries too like Austria 🇦🇹, Liechtenstein 🇱🇮, and Italy 🇮🇹. And Krampus has been embraced in North America as well in recent years, partially thanks to that movie, and he’s kind of just accepted as apart of Christmas mythology 🎄, right along Santa 🎅, Mrs. Claus 🧑🎄, the elves 🧝♂️🧝♀️ (I know these emojis are not Christmas elves 🎄🧝♂️🧝♀️, but this is all Apple’s got, so cut me some slack), and reindeer 🦌.
(These are some screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing Lucy Loud with her book 📖 on Krampus. I love Lily’s expression here when she looks at Lucy showing off her book 📖 and talking about how she wants Krampus’s autograph ✍️ 🤣.)
Some times, Santa 🎅 and Krampus are depicted as rivals, or sometimes they’re depicted as partners, it just depends on the story. Krampus himself is often depicted as being a monstrous goat man 🐐♂︎ with big huge devil horns, hooved feet, sharp teeth, and glowing red eyes. Some depictions of Krampus emphasize the goat features 🐐 more than others, but that is generally what he usually looks like. There’s almost sort of a God and Devil thing going on, where Santa 🎅 is like God, where he’s depicted as an old man with a big white beard, and Krampus is like Satan, where he’s depicted as a monstrous goat man 🐐♂︎. What is it with goats 🐐 and them being associated with Satan and demons anyway? They’re pretty harmless animals, and we often keep them as livestock.
Sure, they can hurt you, especially with those horns, but they’re particularly known for being the most fearsome animals. So why this association with Hell and pure evil 😈? Is it just their eyes? Their eyes are pretty weird and freaky, that religious people must’ve thought they were evil and demonic 😈. That’s the only thing I can think of. I can see some people being creeped out by goats 🐐, mainly because of those eyes, and those blank stares they often give. It’s funny I mention Satan though because Satan is kind of an anagram for Santa 🎅, it has all the same letters, and it’s easy for people to misspell Santa 🎅 and accidentally write Satan instead, especially people who are dyslexic. I’ve even almost done it a couple of times while writing this portion of the review, but luckily I stopped myself before I actually made the mistake.
They made a whole movie about this concept, or this idea, last year, in 2024, of a dyslexic kid writing a letter ✉️ to Santa 🎅, but accidentally writes Satan instead, and inadvertently summons him, and Satan starts hanging out with this kid and acting as his personal Santa 🎅. The movie was called Dear Santa 🎅 (2024), it was directed by Bobby Farrelly, one of the two Farrelly Brothers, the brother directing duo responsible for Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, Shallow Hal, There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Osmosis Jones (didn’t realize they directed that 🤯), The Heartbreak Kid, The Three Stooges (2012), and Dumb and Dumber To 😒. I haven’t seen Dear Santa 🎅 (2024), but I heard it wasn’t very good, and it really didn’t look very good from the trailers, despite the hilarious concept. This isn’t even the only movie to do this concept of a kid trying to write a letter ✉️ to Santa 🎅, and accidentally writing Satan instead, and then summoning Satan as a result. There’s an unreleased Filipino movie 🇵🇭 called Dear Satan, that was later renamed Dear Santa 🎅, just like the American movie 🇺🇸.
Personally, I think they should keep the Dear Satan name to distinguish it from the American movie 🇺🇸 starring Jack Black. They’re completely unrelated to each other, it’s not like one’s a remake of the other. They’re just two movies that happen to have the same premise, and similar titles. The only part that’s different is that dyslexia isn’t used as an explanation for why the kid misspells Santa 🎅 as Satan. Oh, and the kid is a girl ♀︎ instead of a boy ♀︎ like in the American movie 🇺🇸. Dear Satan has not been released. It’s a completed movie, it was going to be released in Filipino theaters 🇵🇭 in 2024, same year as the American movie 🇺🇸, but the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), which is pretty much the Philippines 🇵🇭’s equivalent to the MPA here in America 🇺🇸, gave the film an X rating, barring the film from theatrical exhibition. The production company behind the movie, Mavx Productions, didn’t go back for review and appeal to the MTRCB.
They probably gave it an X rating because they didn’t improve of the concept, of a kid trying to write to Santa 🎅, misspelling his name, and accidentally summoning Satan instead, and then befriending Satan and changing him into a good person. The Philippines 🇵🇭 is still a pretty Christian nation ✝️, a very Catholic nation ✝️, or at least the northern half is (the southern half of the country is more Islamic ☪️), so they probably would not approve of a movie that in any way portrays Satan in a positive light, or presents him befriending a little girl ♀︎. Hence, the X rating, the totally undeserved and unwarranted X rating. Good to know that other countries’ ratings boards are just as bad as the MPA 😒. There have been plans to release the movie on either Netflix or on home media (like DVD 📀,or Blu-Ray 💿, or even 4K 💿), but so far, nothing has happened yet. But, I do hope this movie doesn’t get released someday, just for the filmmakers’ sake, even if it ends up not being very good.
But even before either of these two movies, the connection between Satan and Santa 🎅, and Santa 🎅 being an anagram for Satan had already been made. The Tony Scott directed and Shane Black written Last Boy Scout has a scene towards the beginning where the main character’s adulterous wife shows him a picture that their daughter drew of Santa 🎅 as a demonic killer called Satan Claus 🎅😈. The daughter is a troubled kid, who isn’t taking her parents’ marriage problems very well. That’s why she’s so weird, and has a puppet that she made herself, and draws deranged pictures of Satan Claus 🎅😈. My guess as to why they chose to do a subplot in Naughty or Nice about Lucy trying to meet Krampus is that she’s the gothic one of the family. She’s into spooky stuff and the macabre, and she’s pretty much the Wednesday Addams of the family, only way nicer and less psychopathic. She’s even apart of a club at school called the Mortician’s Club, which is full of other goth kids, who she is all close friends with. So, the people who worked on this movie devised a plotline for her where she’s trying to find Krampus and meet him, while everyone else is trying to find Santa 🎅 and meet him. They figured that would be more on brand and in character for Lucy to do, rather having her be excited to meet Santa 🎅 like everybody else.
It’s the same reason why, if they were to do a Loud House movie set in Japan 🇯🇵, where the Loud family goes to Japan 🇯🇵, they’d probably do a subplot where Lucy is trying to find yōkai, and maybe even meets up with some Japanese goths 🇯🇵, who also want to find yōkai. Even if it is Santa 🎅 who they ultimately meet, and not Krampus. That is one of the more disappointing thing about this movie, the fact that they never show Krampus, or confirm if he’s real or not. All that build up of Lucy looking for him, and they never end up showing him. Even when things go bad, and the North Pole is in disarray. Instead, all we get is an evil Santa 🎅😈. What
a missed opportunity to not have Krampus show up, and be the main bad
guy, now that everything’s topsy-turvy, and everything that should be
nice is now naughty.
Maybe, since Santa 🎅 is now “naughty,” he actually turns into Krampus. Or maybe, make him an antihero who actually helps
the main heroes stand up to the evil Santa 🎅😈; essentially fulfilling the same purpose that he usually does, punishing naughty people, and now Santa 🎅 is naughty, so of course, Krampus would go after him. I just described a way more interesting Christmas movie 🎄 than this one. Lucy almost never gets what she wants. None of the things she believes in are confirmed to be real, except for ghosts 👻. They’ve shown ghosts 👻, they’ve shown a dragon, they’ve shown sirens 🧜♀️, they’ve shown aliens 👽, and now they’ve shown Santa 🎅 and Christmas elves 🎄🧝♂️🧝♀️. But no, vampires 🧛♂️🧛♀️, no werewolves 🐺, and no Krampus, what gives? I bet if they did do a movie set in Japan 🇯🇵, and had a subplot about Lucy trying to search for yōkai or oni 👹, they probably wouldn’t even show them.
Although, they do have her wear an ugly Christmas sweater after she goes to this store that she thinks is Krampus’s home or work shop or whatever, but is actually a sweater shop called Grampus Ugly Sweater Shop; the reason why she mistakes it for Krampus’s place is the “Ugly Sweater Shop” part of the name was covered by snow 🌨️, and Grampus was written in cursive, and the G looked similar to a K; Lucy’s like 9 or 10 years old at this point, and they don’t teach cursive in school anymore, so she probably couldn’t read that; but she’s a goth, and goths are known for their calligraphy, so she should’ve been able to read cursive no problem and know that was a G and not a K. At first, she’s terrified and appalled the store and what’s inside (she does that really funny monotone scream she does sometimes if she’s really terrified of something 🤣), and by all the bright colors, until she spots a sweater that she likes despite all logic. That’s why she’s wearing a sweater in that clip/image that went viral of her running while a creature is sitting on top of her head and pulling on her bangs, exposing one of her eyes 👁️.
(These are screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing the Grampus scene, where Lucy goes into an ugly Christmas sweater store 🎄 mistakingly believing that it was Krampus’s place. She starts out hating it because of all the bright colors, until she finds a sweater that she likes, and says, “Oh no. I love it.”)
Which leads me to the thing that everyone’s talking about with this movie, the fact that they showed one of Lucy’s eyes. This movie will forever be remembered as the movie where they finally showed one of Lucy’s eyes. It won’t be remembered for the story, or the message, or Lincoln or any of the other characters (old and new), or the actual Christmas festivities and aesthetics 🎄, no, just that they showed one of Lucy’s eyes. After 9 years, 10 seasons, 291 episodes, and 3 movies (4 if you count The Casagrandes Movie), they finally one of her eyes ☝️. I honestly never thought that this would happen. I thought this was going to be one of those things where they would never show her eyes. Just like how they never showed what was under Double D’s hat in Ed, Edd n Eddy. But no, they actually decided to show one of her eyes in this, a Christmas movie 🎄 of all things. So now, we now know what Lucy’s eyes look like, because her other eye presumably looks the same as the one they showed.
That was pretty cool, that was a nice little treat for those who were actually wondering what Lucy’s eyes looked like. I didn’t really care, I was content with not knowing what her eyes looked like, that wasn’t something I had to know, and I had kind of accepted the idea that they were never going to show us. But, I am glad that they did show us. It truly was a highlight in this film, and I’m glad they didn’t make it some big reveal. They did in such a nonchalant, matter of fact way, during a scene where everyone’s getting attacked by the Naughty creatures, and she’s running away while a creature’s pulling on her bangs. It’s like the people who made this movie were like, “There’s her eye. Let’s move on.” And she does look cute with that one eye. It does make her look more like a typical Loud House character, Lucy always stood out from the other characters, both in the Loud family and out, but The Loud House has a cute art style, and I like the character designs in the show (for the most part), so I don’t mind, and I think Lucy looks cute with her one eye. Like a lot of other Loud House fans have said, I hope they do more scenes in future episodes of the show or in future movies, where they show her eyes, even if it’s just for a few brief seconds; even if it’s just for a gag.
(This is a screenshot from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing some of the Loud sisters and the two parents, Rita and Lynn Loud Sr.. The Loud sisters missing from here are Lori, Luan, Luna, and Lana.)
I will say that the sisters overall get a lot more to do in this movie than they did in No Time to Spy. This movie did a better job at balancing the Lincoln stuff with the sister stuff, even if the sisters are of course, not the main characters, or the main focus of this movie, Lincoln is. They got a lot more screen time, and lines, and they actually work together as a unit rather than just following Lincoln’s lead. Lincoln’s still the proactive one, he’s still the one who’s leading the charge, but the rest of the Loud family are more than just glorified sidekicks in this. And while they are mad at him 😠 for ruining Christmas 🎄 and throwing everything out of balance, it never gets to the point where it feels mean spirited. Like, the Loud family isn’t just taking their anger 😠 out on Lincoln and using him as a punching bag, like in episodes like “No Such Luck 🍀” or “The Taunting Hour,” even I don’t think those episodes are as bad as people make them out to be.
It could just be me being a newer fan of this show, but I had no idea that “No Such Luck 🍀” was this uniquely hated episode in the series. It’s pretty much the “Splinter” or “House Fancy” of this series. It was the breaking point for a lot of fans, and it was the one that made them give up on this show and stop watching it. It, and other episodes like “The Taunting Hour” and “One of the Boys ♂︎” are the kind of episodes that Mr. Enter would’ve made 10 or 20 minute long videos talking about how bad they are, if he even actually watched this show, which I wouldn’t be too surprised if he didn’t. I don’t know what Mr. Enter’s videos are like now, but I feel like he only talks about cartoons that he grew up with, or cartoons that are currently popular. And while I wouldn’t say The Loud House is unpopular, it’s certainly not popular. It’s somewhere in-between, if that makes any sense.
(This is a screenshot of a comment that I left on a video talking about the Loud House episode, “No Such Luck 🍀,” where I basically said that I didn’t understand the hate for it.)
But, sort of like those SpongeBob 🧽 episodes I mentioned, I like these episodes’ reputations are little bit unearned. I feel like episode are exaggerating how bad these episodes actually are. I mean, people hate the Season 5 premiere, “Schooled,” and I don’t think that episode is nearly as bad as people made it out to be. I mean, I didn’t think it was good, it was just kind of okay, but I didn’t hate it. It didn’t make me angry 😡 like it apparently did some people. People just hate “The Splinter” because it grosses them out 🤢 and they hate “House Fancy” because it makes them uncomfortable 😖. In fact, if that episode didn’t have that toenail scene, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as notorious as it is. There are worse episodes of SpongeBob 🧽 than those, those are just the ones that people on the Internet 🛜 decided to single out. But, even then, I feel as if a lot of people’s strong hatred for some of the post-movie episodes, is in at least some part due to these people growing up, and feeling like they’ve grown beyond SpongeBob 🧽.
They’ve grown out of it, and they’re just hating on it and dismissing it as “childish and immature,” because they’re adults, and they have more “sophisticated tastes.” They’re perhaps embarrassed that they ever liked SpongeBob 🧽, or they’re so desperate to seem mature that they’re willing to tear down anything that can be perceived as being too “kiddie.” That could also be a part of why some of these Loud House fans didn’t like those episodes I mentioned, and let it paint the way they perceive the show going forward, and they just gave up on it, and moved on with their lives. It’s part of the reason why I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I disliked some of the writing, I didn’t like the direction the show seemed to be going in, and I didn’t like what they were doing with some of the characters. But, at a certain point, I realized that the reason why I wasn’t really like that show anymore is because I had grown out of it. It was never going to be the show I wanted it to be because it was never made for me in the first place. So, I just let the show go, and moved on with my life, watching other things that were more my speed, stuff that was more up my alley than MLP ever was. This show included.
(These are screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing all of the Loud family members outside in their front yard, along with Lincoln’s best friend, Clyde McBride, getting ready to leave to Gingerhausen. The second screenshot is of the house itself, with Vanzilla in the front yard. Yes, that’s really what they call their family vehicle.)
I kind of have an unorthodox opinion about this show than a lot of other fans. The conventional wisdom amongst fans about this show is that, like SpongeBob 🧽, The Fairly OddParents, The Simpsons, and other long running animated TV shows, it used to be good, but as it kept going, it got bad. There’s this belief that the longer a TV show goes on, the more likely it is that will decline in quality. Some fans feel that the same has happened to The Loud House. The more cynical fans will say that the first three, possibly even four, seasons were great, but everything after that was garbage. A lot of those same fans will say the show really started to decline in quality with Season 5 onwards, while others say it started to go downhill with “No Such Luck 🍀,” which was a Season 2 episode.
So, damn, those fans thought the show declined after Season 1 and starting with Season 2. As you can tell by now, I obviously don’t hold this opinion about The Loud House. I have the opposite opinion actually. I think the show got better over time, rather than getting worse. I’ve tried watching episodes from Seasons 1-3, and boy are some of those episodes rough. I would say Season 1 is the weakest season of the entire series, in my opinion. It’s kind of a wonder that the show even went on to have 10 seasons and counting after that first season. But, based on the episodes that I’ve seen so far, I would say that the show really started hitting its stride with Season 3, maybe even 4, and it’s been up and up ever since. The show’s not perfect, no show is, at least none that I’ve seen, but I say it’s still pretty good for a show that has gone on for 9 years and has no end in sight. But, I get it, certain fans don’t like this show for what it became in the seasons after Season 4, how they added in all of these supernatural elements and sci-fi elements.
They feel that it’s no longer grounded, although I would argue that this show was never grounded, and people complaining about the show becoming less grounded and becoming more outlandish either forgot what this show started out as, or just don’t care and are just trying to any reason to not like this show past Season 3 or 4. And I get why those episodes I mentioned are disliked by certain sections of the fandom, they don’t like seeing Lincoln being mistreated. If you’re someone who didn’t like those episodes I mentioned for that reason, you’ve got nothing to worry about with this movie because while Lincoln is to blame for why things go wrong, and while the family is mad at him for what he did 😠, it never gets the point where they’re being mean to him unnecessarily, or they’re being unreasonable towards him. They don’t treat him like a punching bag is what I’m saying.
(These are more screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄, where the other Loud family members get mad at Lincoln for focusing too much on his Rip Hardcore multi-tool instead of focusing on family fun time and togetherness. The usual cliché things you’d expect from a Christmas movie 🎄, especially a family friendly Christmas movie 🎄.)
The Loud family is actually pretty forgiving of him, a lot more forgiving than a lot of other families would be if one of their family members did something like this. Because what Lincoln did, didn’t just affect the Loud family, it affected the entire world, including the North Pole. Santa 🎅 turns evil 😈 because of what he did. He really does turn into Satan Claus 🎅😈 because of what Lincoln did. Joe Hallenbeck’s daughter predicted it, all the way back in 1991. I mean, would you forgive your son or your brother if he did something like that? For some of you reading, yes, you probably would, while others, no, probably not. So, you should like this movie just fine if all you’re worried about is Lincoln being bullied by the rest of his family. Sure, it’s got fantasy elements, and there’s real magic, and if that’s something that put you off about the more recent seasons and episodes of The Loud House and if you like the more grounded and “relatable” stuff in the show, then you probably will not like this movie because it doubles down on all the fantasy elements. More than just double down, it triples down.
I know I’ve complained a lot about this movie so far. I don’t want to make it seem like I hated it because I didn’t. I actually really liked it. A lot more than I expected to in all honesty. I was surprised at how much they spent on the world being messed up by Lincoln’s actions. I thought that was just going to be a thing that happens towards the end of the movie, and most of it would either be spent at Gingerhausen, that small village or strip mall that the Louds go to at the beginning of the movie that they apparently go to every year to shop Christmas 🎄, apparently. They never mentioned this place until now. It looks like a small rustic German 🇩🇪, Austrian 🇦🇹, or maybe even Swiss village 🇨🇭, but it’s a strip mall basically, a Christmas themed strip mall 🎄. Though given the name, Gingerhausen, it’s more German 🇩🇪 or Austrian 🇦🇹 than Swiss 🇨🇭. It would make sense why Lucy thought that she could find Krampus there and get his autograph ✍️, since Krampus is a folkloric figure of Germanic origins. Or it would be spent on Lincoln trying to do nice things to get back on the Nice list, so that he can get his Rip Hardcore multi-tool. But no, the Gingerhausen stuff actually makes up a pretty small portion of the movie, and most it is at the beginning. Same thing with the Lincoln trying to be nice stuff. The rest of the movie is dealing with the main conflict, of being the world being in chaos because Lincoln tried to hack into T.I.N.N.S.L. and put himself on the Nice list, and end up messing up the Christmas magic continuum 🎄 or whatever it’s called.
The majority of the movie was set in the North Pole, in the messed up North Pole, which pretty much got turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland because of what Lincoln did. All the elves 🎄🧝♂️🧝♀️ turned into Mad Max rejects as soon as they were turned naughty, and all the snowmen ⛄️ and cute woodland creatures 🐇 turned into monstrous versions of themselves. The movie actually felt a bit longer than I was expecting it to, and it’s not a long movie either. It’s only 81 minutes long, which is 1 hour and 21 minutes. But, it didn’t speed on by like I was expecting it too. It paced itself pretty well I would say. The movie also had a pretty long intro or prologue where you don’t see the Loud family at all, and you’re just focusing on the new character, Duncan, and setting up the story and the main conflict, which is that Lincoln is a flipper, and keeps switching between the Naughty and Nice lists. No Time to Spy kind of did the same thing, where it had a long intro without any of the Loud family. But, it was still kind of familiar because it focused on a character from the show that we knew, Myrtle, we were just seeing a different side of her that was described but we didn’t get to see yet. But, the intro to this movie was even longer than the one for No Time to Spy.

(These are screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing the new character, Duncan.)
I did like Duncan, I thought he was a cool character. I thought maybe he would annoy me at first when he’s first introduced, and when he first interacts with Lincoln and Clyde, but he didn’t, I really liked him. Especially, when he starts helping out the Loud family save the day, and restore the Christmas magic 🎄, thanks to Lynn Sr. keeping a bottle of it to make his figgy pudding, which no one likes except him. Besides Lincoln, Duncan is really the only character in this movie that has an actual arc. He’s about algorithms and data, and he created the T.I.N.N.S.L. system specifically because he thought he could quantify whether or not someone’s good or bad, naughty or nice (just like the title said). But, as he learns throughout the course of the film, it’s never that clear cut where someone’s naughty or nice, especially kids. Kids are unpredictable, they’re blank slates, they’re mixture of good and bad, and it’s only when you give them proper guidance will they actually be able to distinguish right or wrong, and they’ll be able to make a decision whether they want to be good or bad. So, after learning this, and after everything’s put back the way it was, Duncan updates the T.I.N.N.S.L. system to reflect this unpredictability in children, this uncertainty about whether a child will choose to be good or bad.
(These are screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing Lincoln panicking so much that he’s grabbing Clyde’s jacket.)
That was a really nice message, and I feel like this movie handles it a lot better than a lot of other Christmas movies 🎄 with similar messages. I even liked this movie’s depiction of Santa 🎅, even if we didn’t get see a whole lot of the good Santa 🎅 in this, and we mostly just see the bad Santa 🎅😈, who’s referred to as “Naughty Santa 🎅😈,” because calling him “Bad Santa 🎅😈,” would’ve been too on the nose. And the movie’s called Naughty or Nice, so it’s better to call him “Naughty Santa 🎅😈” to stay on brand. Again, would’ve been nice to have seen Krampus, they teased us with that, but I guess they just wanted to keep it focused on Santa 🎅, something Americans 🇺🇸 are familiar with, whereas Krampus is more of a niche thing still in North America. But again, they mention Krampus, and make a big deal out of the fact that Lucy wants to meet him, but they don’t actually have the balls to actually show him. Maybe next time if they do another Christmas movie 🎄, but I kind of doubt it. Next year’s the 10 year anniversary of The Loud House, so they’ll have to do something special. I just don’t know what they’ll do. But, whatever they do, I hope it’s good.
(These are screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing the Loud family + Clyde in Vanzilla, on their way to Gingerhausen.)
One thing that I didn’t like was that they erased most of the Loud family’s memory of what happened, and now Lincoln’s the only one who actually remembers the events of this film. I know, some people will probably defend that, and say something along the line of, “Well, they did to avoid any continuity issues,” but so many crazy shit has happened in the series, and in the movies, and the Loud family has been through and seen so much crazy shit, that really, how much would that have hurt the continuity of the show. The Loud family had this shared experience together, they literally saved Christmas 🎄, to use a word that Lori says all the time, “literally,” this could have been a cool memory that they all had together, and could reminisce about. Like, “hey, remember that time we saved Christmas 🎄?” But again, another missed opportunity, and another odd story decision that the movie makes. It’s so annoying because whenever Lincoln mentions the events of the movie to anyone in the future, they’ll either think he’s crazy or he just dreamt the whole thing 💭. And the movie makes it very clear that these events did happen, it never once tries to suggest that it’s all in Lincoln’s head or that it was all a dream 💭. I mean, he gets a Lincoln Loud branded multi-tool that talks to him from St. Nick 🎅 himself, how would they explain that?

There is something else weird that the movie throws at you that I want to talk about real quick before I finally wrap this up (no pun intended). If you thought Lynn Sr. having a weird obsession with figgy pudding was something weird that the movie throws at you, get a load of this: Rita has an obsession with Ninja Turtles 🥷🐢, specifically Ninja Turtle 🥷🐢 nutcrackers. She spends a lot of the movie, especially the first half, trying to find a Donatello nutcracker to complete her set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 🥷🐢 nutcrackers. Obviously, this is just the filmmakers and the animators behind this taking advantage of the fact that TMNT 🥷🐢 is owned by Paramount, so not reference something that Paramount actually owns? They did this same thing with the classic Nickelodeon game shows, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Double Dare. But, it is funny knowing that Rita’s a fan of Ninja Turtles 🥷🐢. That definitely means she’s Gen X, and she grew up with the 1980s version, because she’s definitely no Millennial, that’s for sure. She’s not Gen Z. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to have 11 kids, and they wouldn’t be ages that they are in the show and in this movie (and the other movies).
(These are screenshots from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄 showing Rita in the passenger side of Vanzilla, getting upset that she doesn’t have a matching Donatello nutcracker to go with the other Ninja Turtles 🥷🐢 nutcrackers in her collection 😠.)
This will be a nice Christmas movie 🎄 to return to and watch every year, like if you want to watch something Christmas-y 🎄 that isn’t one of the usual suspects (not the movie, The Usual Suspects, just the movies people usually watch during the holidays) like Elf 🎄🧝♂️, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 🎄, Miracle on 34th Street (the original or the remake), It’s a Wonderful Life, one of the many adaptations of A Christmas Carol 🎄🕯️, Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas 🎄, Jingle All the Way, The Santa Clause 🎅, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, The Long Kiss Goodnight 💋🎄, or even Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 💋 (those last three movies all being written by Shane Black because he likes setting his movies at Christmas 🎄, unless it’s The Predator), then this one would be a good one to watch. Especially if you’re someone who still likes The Loud House, or likes cartoons in general. Just don’t expect to watch it on Paramount+. That’s probably the most annoying thing about trying to watch this movie and review it for this blog, and part of the reason why it took so long, the fact that it was inexplicably taken off of Paramount+.
I ended up having to ask my aunt to rent it for me on Amazon Prime because that was the only place I could find it to watch it legally. I’m no pirate 🏴☠️. What was even the point of even putting on Paramount+ if you’re not going to keep it there? This is why I hate the streaming model, and why I don’t want physical media or movie theaters to go away. It’s why I’m against the Netflix deal to buy Warner Bros. because it will kill the movie theater model and kill physical media in one fell swoop 😒. Movie studios can just remove movies from their platforms at any time for very little justifiable reason, and even make them disappear entirely. This is why you don’t want streaming to be the only way you can watch a movie or a TV show. Not only do you not own it, but it may not even be around for much longer. At least, No Time to Spy is still on Paramount+. So, if you do try to seek this movie out, be aware that you probably won’t find it on Paramount+, despite it premiering there simultaneously as well as on Nickelodeon back in late November, and you’ll likely have to rent it like I did. Don’t worry, once you rent it, you’ll be able to keep it for 30 days, just make sure you make time to watch it within those 30 days.

(This is a clip from A Loud House Christmas Movie: Naughty or Nice 🎄, from the scene where the Loud siblings write their letters ✉️ to Santa 🎅, and prepare for their trip to Gingerhausen. As well as the musical number that plays during the scene where the Louds are driving to Gingerhausen, which I kind of tuned out of, along with the other musical parts of this movie, because I’m not a fan of musicals 😒. This sneak peek is where I got the majority of the screenshots I used in this review.)
